Hughey's Battery [also called 8th Field Battery] was organized during the late summer of 1862. After being involved in the conflicts at Fayetteville and Devil's Backbone, the unit was assigned to General Cabell's Brigade, Trans-Mississippi Department. It fought at Poison Spring and Marks' Mill, then participated in Price's operations in Missouri. The company was near Camden, Arkansas, when the war ended. Captain William M. Hughey was in command.
