Morgan's Cavalry Regiment (also called 2nd Regiment) was organized during the spring of 1864. It was the successor to the 5th (Newton's) Arkansas Cavalry Regiment. The unit was assigned to General Cabell's Brigade, Trans-Mississippi Department, and fought at Poison Spring and Marks' Mills where it lost eighteen percent of the 130 engaged. It was involved in Price's Missouri Expedition and disbanded prior to the surrender in June 1865. The field officers were Colonel Thomas J. Morgan, Lieutenant Colonels John P. bull and John W. Coarser, and Major William N. Portis.
