7th Cavalry Battalion

7th Cavalry Battalion was organized during the fall of 1863 by the addition of one Virginia and one North Carolina cavalry company to the 2nd Kentucky Cavalry Battalion. It served in the Department of East Tennessee, and then was attached to the Department of Western Virginia and East Tennessee. The unit skirmished in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia, and in September, 1864, contained about 250 effectives. It disbanded during the spring of 1865. The field officers were Lieutenant Colonel Clarence J. Prentice and Major W. G. Repass.
