2nd Infantry Regiment
2nd Infantry Regiment, formerly the 25th Mississippi
Infantry Regiment, was formed in January, 1862. It contained men
from Mississippi and Tennessee. The unit was assigned to General
Bowen's Brigade, Army of the Mississippi, and saw action at Shiloh.
Then on May 8, 1862, it was broken up. The men joined other commands
and three Mississippi companies became the 1st Mississippi Battalion
Sharpshooters. Its field officers were Colonel John D. Martin,
Lieutenant Colonel Edward F. McGehee, and Major Thomas H. Mangum.
