Navy and appointed Master's Mate June 21, 1863. Served as Senior Quartermaster on C. S. S. Alabama August 24, 1862-June 21, 1863, when he was transferred to the C. S. bark Tuscaloosa (formerly the American bark, Conrad). Remained on the Tuscaloosa to December 27, 1863, when she was seized by the British authorities at Saint Simon's Sound, Isle of Good Hope. After that he was ordered to join the Rappahannock at Calais, France, but no record has been found to show that he ever joined her.
