Drew's Cherokee Mounted Rifles

Drew's Cherokee Mounted Rifles was formed during June, 1861, and in May, 1862, totalled about 1,000 officers and men. The unit was active in the conflict at Elkhorn Tavern, then skirmished in the Indian Territory. In August, 1862, it disbanded because of political differences among the men. Colonel John Drew, Lieutenant Colonel William P. Ross, and Major Thomas Pegg were in command.
