6th Cavalry Regiment was organized late in 1863 using Davenport's Battalion State Cavalryas its nucleus. It was mustered into Confederate service in January, 1864. The unit was placed in Ruggles', Mabry's, and Starke's Brigade, Department of Alabama, Mississippi, and East Louisiana, and participated in various conflicts in Mississippi. In the fight at Harrisburg it reported 73 casualties. During February, 1865, it was consolidated with the 8th Mississippi Cavalry and surrendered in May. The field officers were Colonel Isham Harrison, Lieutenant Colonels Thomas C. Lipscomb and Thomas M. Nelson, and Major R.G. Brown.
