George Richard Sims

Buried in the Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery, Little Rock, Newton County, Mississippi,
Pvt. George Richard Sims, Company D, 39th Mississippi Infantry. Sims enlisted in Decatur, Mississippi on 26 April 1862. He became a POW when Port Hudson surrendered to Federal forces in July 1863. He was wounded, as was his brother John, at the Battle of Franklin, Tennessee on 30 November 1864 and he was listed among men who made it to the main line of the Federal earthworks at Franklin. He was captured on 9 April 1865 at Fort Blakeley, Alabama and sent to Ship Island as a POW, ending the war for him.
