Roberts '-Ruffner's Battery was organized during the late summer of 1862. Some of its members had served in the Missouri State Guard. It was assigned to R. G. Shaver's, Shelby's, and J. B. Clark's Brigade in the Trans-Mississippi Department. The unit participated in the operations against the Federal advance on Little Rock, fought at Pine Bluff, and lost 17 out of the 32 engaged at Jenkins' Ferry. In June, 1865, it was near Collinsburg, Louisiana, and surrendered there. Its commanders were Captains William Roberts and S. T. Ruffner.
