Fristoe's Cavalry Regiment was organized in July, 1864 with 830 officers and men. It served in the Trans-Mississippi Department and was active in Northern Arkansas. Later it was attached to Colonel I R. Freeman's Brigade and during Price's Missouri Expedition lost 11 killed, 40 wounded, and 65 missing. In December it contained 175 effectives, continued the fight in Arkansas, and disbanded prior to the surrender in June, 1865. The field officers were Colonel Edward T. Fristoe, Lieutenant Colonel J. H. Tracy, and Major Matthew J. Norman.
