Schnable's Cavalry Battalion was organized during the summer of 1864 with four companies, later increased to eight. The unit was assigned to S. D. Jackman's Brigade, Trans-Mississippi Department, and was active in Price's Missouri operations. It later skirmished the Federals in Arkansas and in May, 1865, about 400 surrendered at Yellville. Lieutenant Colonel John A. Schnable commanded the battalion.
