Valverde Light Artillery was organized early in 1862 and was equipped with six guns captured at the engagement at Valverde, New Mexico, in February. It was assigned to the Trans-Mississippi Department and served in Arkansas and Louisiana. The unit was attached to the 1st Artillery Battalion and distinguished itself during Banks' Red River Campaign. Near Nacogdoches, Texas, the company was included in the surrender on June 2, 1865. Captains T. D. Nettles and Joseph D. Sayers were in command.
