FAULKNER, J. W‑ A man who gave this name, and Identified as in Co. B, was a POW 3/20/65 at Hillsboro. Federal records note "belongs to Mosby's Gang," and there are no Confederate or postwar records on him in the 8th. Apparently refers to a member of Mosby's 43d Bn. Va. Cav., perhaps using a ruse.

GREEN, JOHN SHACKLEFORD: b. 6/9/17 in Rappahannock Co. enl. 4/22/61 in Co. B as Capt. Farmer. On recruiting duty since 2/4 on 1‑2/62 roll. Dropped 4/20/62. To Major 4/30/62. To Lt. Col. 7/16/62. Wded., POW and paroled 9/22/62 at Pads. Acquitted by court‑martial of disobedience of orders and breach of arrest 9/17/63. Resigned 4/23/64 for the good of the service. On this Gen. Job Stuart wrote that Green "deserves credit for his patriotism. The service will be benefitted beyond a doubt by Its acceptance." Resignation recorded as of 519/64. Lived in Norfolk postwar, d. there 1/1/91.

Bell at Staunton ca. 6/10/63‑‑3/24/64, and Philip Greaves, Co. L, 62d Va. Mtd. inf., paroled at HQ Army of the Shenandoah 4/30/65, age 36, resid. Augusta Co. Correct name apparently Philip Graver. 

GRIFFITH, JOHN W.: enl. 9/14/62 in Co. H. On detached service at Gen. Jeb Stuart's since 12/27 on 11‑12/63 roll. AWOL on 9‑10/64 roll. Otherwise present thru final 3/22/65 roll. POW 4/1/65 at Five Forks. Took the oath at Pt. Lookout when sick 6/8/65 and released. 

GRIFFITH, WILLIAM E.: enl. 10/18/62 in Co. H. AWOL on 11‑12/62 roll, but 12/62 return says absent on furlough after horse. Absent on horse detail on 9‑10/64 roll. Otherwise present thru final 3/22/65 roll. Reported by Richmond as deserter on 2/28/65, to be found in Loudoun Co. On ca. 1898 Fauquier Co. veterans census, age 59.

Absent sick since 12/29 on 11‑12/61 roll; 12/61 return has him AWOL from 12/29. Present, but then AWOL on 12/5/62 roll. Deserted, probably on 11/12/62 near Paris. Doubtless Identical to the man of this name, 9/10/40‑4/3/19, bur. Edge Hill Cem., Charles Town, (W.) Va.

Federal records state that he purposely arranged to be arrested on 9/12/63 at Point of Rocks, at first declined to take the oath, then did 9/25/63 at Ft. McHenry, Md, signing by mark. Present on 12/27/64 roll. POW 2/13/65 at Leesburg, "guerilla, not to be exchanged." Released from Ft. McHenry 5/6/65. Farmer postwar, m. Lucy A. Karnes, (Kearnes, Kearns, Kerns), 1869. d. 9/10/29, bur. Sharon Cem., Middleburg.
