78th Virginia Militia

This is from an undated militia roster, Confederate, per National Archives, probably prior to secession, but no doubt very early in the Civil War Conflict. There were 338 soldiers in this unit. This group of men were mobilized by Humphrey Marshall in early 1862 and their duty station was Moccisan Gap in Scott County. Marshall recruited a company and a half from this body of men, all of Company C, and some for Company G of the 63rd Virginia Infantry.
