61st Regiment Infantry

Authority was given Bernard F. Mullen to organize the Sixty-First (Second Irish) Regiment during the winter of 1861.  The men recruited for it were first rendezvoused at Madison, but were afterward transferred to Terre Haute and Indianapolis to guard the Fort Donelson prisoners.  The attempt to raise the regiment having failed, on the 22nd of May, 1862, the enlisted men and a few of the officers, including Col. Mulle, were transferred to the Thirty-Fifth Indiana, and served with that regiment during its term of service.

Failed to complete organization and enlisted men transferred to 35th Indiana Infantry May 22, 1862.
