64th Regiment Volunteers

Intended for 1st Regiment Light Artillery, but organization not completed.

The Sixty-Fourth Regiment was intended to be an artillery organization, composed of the light batteries, numbered from one to twelve, inclusive, but orders from the War Department against consolidating the independent batteries, prevented the organization of the regiment.  A second artillery regiment was likewise, intended to be similarly organized, except that new batteries were to be accepted to make the organization a maximum one, and this was to be designated as the Sixty-Fifth Regiment.  For the reason before given, this regiment was not organized.  An infantry regiment was, however, afterward organized, bearing the same number.
